Lent Day 36
Tithing
We count our blessings if we have plenty of food, shelter, clothing, all the basic necessities of life, and also several of the niceties of life like our choice of entertainment, gadgets, personal luxuries, and money to use as we choose.
We also are grateful for good health, the use of our all our senses, and mobility to appreciate the wonders of life. Other less fortunate people are not able to enjoy these things.
To properly thank The Lord for whatever money might be left over, if we were to ask Him what would be enough to show our gratitude and give back, how should we split it, how many dollars out of every ten?
Here’s how the conversation might go… Lord, you have been good to me, for every 10 dollars left over, how about we split it 5 and 5?
Nope, just one.
Lord do you mean you get 9 and I get one?
Nope, you keep 9 and just give me 1.
Lord are you sure? You have already given us so much. It would only be fair if we gave you more.
Nope, 1 would be just fine.
There have been stories about people who do this ten percent rule, and by doing so they find somehow all their needs get taken care of, sometimes mysteriously.
Yet most of us still do not quite trust that enough.
